According to insider Tom Henderson, Santa Monica Studio is working on not one but two God of War titles — a full-scale sequel and a smaller spin-off in the vein of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. In a recent episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, Henderson revealed a curious detail about the mainline game.

If his information is accurate, Kratos will wield a rather exotic weapon: an ancient Egyptian curved blade, most likely a khopesh once favored by Eastern warriors.

Henderson didn’t share anything beyond that, leaving room for speculation. Chances are the next God of War will shift to an Egyptian setting. The developers have long wanted to send Kratos into the land of pyramids and pharaohs before ultimately choosing Norse mythology for the last two games.

Interestingly, dual khopeshes are already part of Tyr’s arsenal. The Norse god of war brought them back from his countless journeys, alongside a Greek spear, a Japanese katana, and an Aztec macuahuitl. All of these could be seen in the free Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarok.

The upcoming sequel is believed to be helmed by Cory Barlog, creative director of the 2018 reboot. After that release, he handed the reins of Ragnarök to another team while moving on to a secret project of his own.

Meanwhile, Amazon is also developing a live-action God of War series based on the reboot’s story. Filming is expected to begin in 2026.
