Nintendo has officially announced the timing for its special broadcast dedicated to the reveal of its next-generation hybrid console, the Switch 2. The Switch 2 Direct livestream is scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 6:00 AM PT / 9:00 AM ET / 2:00 PM GMT. The event promises to unveil key details, including the console’s design, technical specifications, and launch lineup.

While Nintendo is keeping things under wraps, leaks suggest an evolutionary design featuring a larger screen, black Joy-Cons with colored accents, an improved kickstand, and a mysterious new button on the controllers. There’s also speculation about Joy-Con functionality—rumors hint at potential compatibility with PC games as standalone controllers.

The Switch 2 is expected to run on an Nvidia Tegra chip based on Arm architecture, offering a performance boost but falling short of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S levels. However, Nintendo has always focused on optimization—even the original Switch, despite modest hardware, could handle AAA titles. Alongside the confirmed Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, there are rumors of a new Mario Kart, teased in a brief promo. Surprises from third-party developers and an official release date are also possible, with analysts predicting a late 2025 launch.

The original Switch, with 150 million units sold, became Nintendo’s best-selling console, but the company remains cautious after the Wii U’s failure. The Switch 2 isn’t a revolution—it’s a refinement of a winning formula, reducing risks while keeping Nintendo ahead in the hybrid console market. For players, it’s a glimpse into the future of handheld gaming.
