CD Projekt RED has released a new video dedicated to The Witcher 4. In this clip, the developers showcase the process behind creating the cinematic trailer for the game, which was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024.

The trailer was developed by CD Projekt RED in collaboration with Platige Image, a company specializing in computer graphics, 3D animation, and digital effects.

Here's what the creators shared:

  • Motion capture sessions lasted for 14 days;
  • The developers aim to recreate a Slavic atmosphere while staying true to the spirit of Andrzej Sapkowski's books;
  • The game's universe and story are filled with shades of gray—no absolutes, only lesser and greater evils;
  • The creators recorded the movements of virtual cameras in the studio for the trailer;
  • They wanted the trailer to feel like a real movie;
  • Filming equipment was rented for three days, and appropriate locations were selected;
  • The scene where Zhivan bids farewell to Mioni was designed to resemble Geralt speaking to Ciri;
  • A special rig was constructed to bring the bauka to life, operated by four people;
  • The monster model was divided into several parts: a goblin-like head, jaguar-like front paws, scorpion-like claws, and a dinosaur-like tail with hind legs.

As a reminder, The Witcher 4 is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5. The exact release date is yet to be announced.
