A first-person, turn-based role-playing game set in the Doom universe, Doom RPG takes place at a Martian Union Aerospace Corporation facility. Its story echoes events from Doom 3 but follows different characters as the protagonist explores the base’s sectors during a demonic invasion.
Movement and combat proceed in turns, with the player choosing actions while fighting monsters and collecting weapons and items. Conversations with non-player characters and access to computer terminals provide information needed to make progress and understand what is happening. The game features familiar weapons and enemies from Doom alongside new weapons. Hellhounds can be captured with a collar and used as both melee weapons and shields.
