This fighting game based on Dragon Ball Z puts its characters into arena battles, where meeting certain conditions unlocks additional story scenes. A story unfolds after battles, with events that change across playthroughs. The visuals and character movement draw on the anime.
Combat emphasizes offense, defense, energy management and special techniques. Fighters can move freely around the arena, and using special skills does not consume energy; a fighter becomes stronger as their energy falls. Each character has a finishing move: a successful attack with it ends the battle, while a failed attempt makes the move unavailable for the rest of the fight. Online cooperative and versus modes are also available.
