NHL 08 is a hockey simulation focused on puck control and one-on-one matchups with defenders and goalies. The Skill Stick lets players move the puck into open space, get around opponents, deke and shoot with greater accuracy. The AI adapts to the player's actions and tactics, while analog speed control and new skating animations support changes of pace, tight turns and quick shifts in direction.
The game features 29 AHL teams that can be played as players develop prospects before calling them up to the main roster. As general manager, the player runs a team and keeps its spending under the salary cap.
