This fantasy role-playing game with turn-based tactical battles is set in Agarest, a world created after a war between the forces of light and darkness. As darkness awakens once more, the story spans multiple generations of heroes, with the player's choices shaping the path between light and darkness and the fate of the next generation.
In combat, characters link their attacks into chains and combos, using special abilities and skills to defeat numerous enemies and colossal foes. Between battles, equipment can be upgraded and items crafted through blacksmithing and alchemy. The Soul Breed system lets the hero build a relationship with one of three female party members in each generation, determining the parent of the next generation of heroes.
