A real-time space strategy game about building an interstellar empire in a procedurally generated galaxy. Its scale can range from one star system to more than ten thousand, and the three-dimensional map can be flattened. Players research technologies, design ships, and fight battles in which targets can include individual ship components and stars themselves.
Diplomacy and negotiations with other empires offer ways to expand an empire’s influence. Research unlocks weapons, engines, and shields, with the option to shuffle the research tree for each game; asteroid belts and stars can be exploited or destroyed, while technology allows worlds to be created and destroyed. Multiplayer supports up to ten opponents, and the game also features race creation and modding support.
