A strategy game with action elements set in the Star Trek: The Next Generation era, Star Trek: Conquest centers on a struggle for control of the galaxy. In the single-player campaign, the player commands one of six factions: the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Dominion, or Breen, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
On a galactic map, the player expands an empire turn by turn, capturing planets and managing limited resources. Fleets and admirals can be directed, support structures built, and technologies researched. When a battle begins, the view shifts to ship-level tactics, letting the player take direct control of vessels and fight in real time.
